FLORIDA VOTING RIGHTS FOR FELONS

Florida State House members Thursday are considering what many state officials are calling ambiguities in the constitutional amendment that restores the right for most felons to vote if they have completed their sentences. Murderers and people who have committed felony sex offenses are not included. However, the amendment doesn’t define exactly what constitutes “murder” or which specific sex crimes make someone ineligible for voting-rights restoration. Officials are also seeking clarification about how to determine whether felons have completed all the terms of their sentences including restitution.
