North Escambia Dot Com, which covers the upper part of Escambia County, says a recent water quality test of Escambia River near Century’s wastewater treatment plant by a state certified lab showed E. coli bacteria levels more than double the state limits, but the bacterial levels did not come from the plant. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection received a complaint about an unreported spill from Century’s wastewater treatment plant, but testing showed the effluent discharge from the facility into the river was within acceptable guidelines and a FDEP spokesperson said E. coli levels can be affected by many factors including stormwater runoff and wildlife.
