The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department said several women visiting the Jesse Rogers Cemetery on Highway 98 on Tuesday found seven headless chickens along the fence line in the back of the cemetery. They said the chickens’ heads were scattered around the carcasses and a new, shiny penny had been placed on at least one bird’s body. It is believed the decapitated chickens could be linked to voodoo or the Santeria religion, which still performs animal sacrifices and the first Tuesday in March is the day of Shango, the warrior god of the Santeria religion. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said deputies will patrol the area more frequently.
