The United States Geological Survey says weak earthquake was recorded near Jay Wednesday night at 10:45. The epicenter was near the intersection of Nelson Town Road and Shell Road and was a magnitude 2.7, strong enough to be felt, but too weak to do significant damage. About 11 people used an online reporting tool to tell the USGS they felt the earthquake. No injuries have been reported in connection with the event. The USGS says earthquakes are rare in the region, but there was a 3.1 magnitude quake just north of the Florida-Alabama border in 1997.
