HURRICANE MICHAEL RELIEF

Northwest Florida lawmakers are supporting a proposal in the Florida Senate that would make 315 million dollars available to local governments for Hurricane Michael recovery. So far, about 1.2 billion dollars has been spent by the state to help with cleanup efforts, but local communities are running out of money. Representative Jay Trumbull from Panama City has filed about 70 bills seeking more than 600 million dollars for the region’s recovery and said the Senate bill is a starting point for a relief package. The Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee backed a separate proposal that would allocate 50 million dollars a year for storm recovery efforts from the Land Acquisition Trust Fund.
