A 66-year-old woman, convicted of killing a child by sitting on her as a form of punishment, has been sentenced to life in prison. On October 14th, 2017, the 320-pound Posey sat on her niece, 9-year-old Dericka Lindsay, in what was said to be an effort to get the girl under control. However, the child suffocated. Posey was found guilty Friday of first-degree murder and Circuit Court Judge Jan Shackelford immediately  sentenced her to life in prison. James Smith, the child’s adoptive father, has already been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for his role in the death.
