CARJACKER ARRESTED

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan says a 38-year-old man who may be a member of the Arayan Brotherhood, was arrested yesterday on charges of carjacking and sexual assault. On Monday night Joshua Edwards – who was recently released from prison – carjacked a vehicle at the Circle K gas station on New Warrington Road with a female victim still inside the car. He eventually released the woman just west of the Naval Air Station around 7:45am yesterday morning. She told responding deputies she had been sexually assaulted. Another caller told deputies he had picked up a hitchhiker who he said was acting suspiciously and dropped him off at the Walmart on Blue Angel Parkway. Deputies established a perimeter in the area and Chief Deputy Chip Simmons spotted Edwards coming out of the woods, ordered him to the ground, and handcuffed him. Deputies found a weapon nearby, and the victim has made a positive identification, He was booked into the Escambia County Jail on multiple felonies.
