Florida Senate Republicans have proposed an education budget that would increase spending by 1.1 billion dollars for public schools. The plan calls for 22.2 billion dollars for public schools, an increase of about $350 per student over current levels. The Senate plan would also provide 68 million dollars to help Florida schools hire at least one safety officer for each school, 46 million dollars to assist struggling schools and 31 million dollars to address youth mental health issues. The House has not yet released its education budget proposal.
