With the Florida alligator hunting season underway, three men in Santa Rosa County didn’t waste any time when they took a 12 foot 7 inch, 451 pound gator in Marquis Basin off Blackwater River early yesterday morning. It took 30 to 45 minutes to capture the animal and they took the gator to a local taxidermist who found a dog tag in the big gator’s stomach. The owner was contacted and said the dog went missing 3-4 years ago. Alligator hunting season in Florida runs until November 1st and a permit must be obtained from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
