FLORIDA SCHOOL REOPEN ORDER UNCONSTITUTIONAL

A circuit judge in Tallahassee has ruled that an order from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis requiring Florida’s schools “brick and mortar” schools to reopen, is unconstitutional. Circuit Judge Charles Dodson agreed with the Florida Education Association that irreparable harm would be caused if schools were to reopen on a date set by officials in Tallahassee. In his decision the Judge said local decision-makers can best determine when schools should reopen. The Florida Education Association filed suit last month against an emergency order issued by Governor DeSantis and state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran to reopen public schools by August 31st. Corcoran warned if schools weren’t reopened, he would have to withhold district funding.
