The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department says a 28-year-old man who got into a gunfight with deputies and then fled into the woods near Saufley Pines Road and Matthews Junction was taken into custody late Friday afternoon. Sheriff David Morgan said deputies were attempting to arrest Tyler Brooks on a warrant for battery of a law enforcement officer shortly before 2 p.m. Brooks fired on the deputies who returned fire.  A K-9 unit located Brooks who had suffered several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds.
