NEW DIRECTOR OF FLORIDA EMPLOYMENT AGENCY

Florida Governor Ron Desantis has appointed State Represenative Dane Eagle as executive director of the state’s employment agency. The appointment comes two days after Ken Lawson announced he was resigning as head of the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity after the agency was heavily criticized for long delays in paying out unemployment benefits during the coronavirus pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people waited weeks, and sometimes months, for unemployment benefits. Eagle is 37 and a real estate broker who has served in the state House since 2012. He is the House majority leader and the vice-chair of the powerful Appropriations Committee.
