PENSACOLA CONFEDERATE MONUMENT

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit that was attempting to stop the City of Pensacola from removing the Confederate monument. U.S. District Judge Casey Rodgers ruled the group that filed the lawsuit lacked standing to sue the city over removal of the monument. The lawsuit argued that removal of the monument would violate the groups’ constitutional rights, as well as state and federal law, but Judge Rodgers said the group lacked standing to sue on free speech grounds and failed to identify any injury that would be caused by the removal of the monument. As part of her ruling, Rodgers also removed the restraining order preventing the city from removing the monument.
