MANAGEMENT OF MILITARY HOSPITALS AND CLINICS

Management of all Navy, Air Force and Army hospitals and clinics will eventually be handled by one agency. The change was approved by Congress as part of the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act and will allow the Defense Health Agency to standardize and streamline all military health care services. The transition is expected to occur over the next three to five years and Defense Health Agency Director Lieutenant General Ronald Place said those who use those hospitals and clinics – active duty service members, retirees and their families – should see no difference in the quality of care. As of January 1st, 2021, military retirees and retiree family members will have to enroll in the TRICARE Select plan for a fee of about $150 for an individual or $300 for a family.
