PENSACOLA DOESN’T MAKE SPACE COMMAND CUT

Pensacola will not be the home to the new headquarters for U.S. Space Command. The only site in Florida that made the final six is Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County. The other five locations still being considered are Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado; Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico; Redstone Arsenal, in Huntsville; Joint Base in San Antonio; and Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska. The Air Force has said that it expects to announce a final site next year, but that it could take up to six years to construct new facilities. During that time, Space Command will remain headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
