APALACHICOLA BAY OYSTER HARVESTING SHUT DOWN

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has shut down oyster harvesting in Apalachicola Bay through the end of 2025 because  of a dwindling oyster population. The area has historically produced 90% of the state’s oysters. The state is using a 20-million-dollar grant to help restore the bay and a portion of the oyster fishery. The decline began about three decades ago and the industry nearly collapsed in 2012.
