The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department says six young people – ranging in age from 17 to 20 have been arrested for a home invasion-burglary during which one of them was shot by the homeowner. Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said 18-year-old Cynthia Register knew her grandfather kept money at his home and got five of her friends to participate in the burglary to obtain money to get one of their friends out of jail. Register and her five accomplices drove to her grandfather’s house in the 7300 block of West Jackson Street around 4am. They turned off the power to the residence and two males entered the home armed with a replica gun as a weapon. Register’s grandfather shot one male in the chest, and they both fled fled back outside and all ended up at Baptist Hospital where the one was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. All are facing multiple felony charges. No charges have been brought against the grandfather.
