72 law enforcement K-9s from 20 agencies in and around the Panhandle are in Pensacola this week, participating in a regional certification competition put on by the United States Police Canine Association. During the certification process, the German shepherd and Belgian Malinois dogs undergo tests and perform challenges such as narcotics detection and apprehension drills before judges. At the end of the week, individual K-9’s cumulative scores will be tallied, and a regional winner will be announced. The even will continue through tomorrow at the Roger Scott Athletic Complex on Summit Boulevard.
