STATE STIMULUS MONEY

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the 10 billion dollars in federal stimulus money coming to Florida from Washington could be used to give bonus checks of $1,000 for Florida first responders and another billion dollars used to help cities combat climate change. The Governor said $1,000 payments could go to more than 150,000 pandemic first responders, fulltime law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs and other personnel to recognize their sacrifice over the last year. DeSantis said. Other funding could go to seaports, hard hit by a shipping shutdown, including cruise ships which have stopped sailing. The governor also wants the state Department of Transportation’s work program to get a billion dollars before July 1st to allow a variety of road-building, bridge and other construction programs that could also increase hiring.
