WALTON COUNTY LAWSUIT SETTLED

A lawsuit filed three years ago by a former Walton County beach maintenance employee who said he had been subjected to unfair treatment and harassment because he is black has been formally settled. Under the terms of the settlement reached last month in mediation the county and former employee Lakota Givens agreed to a voluntary dismissal of the complaint with prejudice which means the case can never be brought back to court and there is no admission of any liability. The county will also pay $50,000 to Givens and cover the cost of mediating the dispute.
