WENTWORTH MUSEUM NAME CHANGE

The University of West Florida Board of Trustees has voted to move forward with changing the name of the T.T. Wentworth Jr. Museum after it was learned that the founder was a member of the Ku Klux Klan. The vote was 5-4 vote and was the second of three needed by different boards to approve changing the name to The Pensacola Museum of History at the University of West Florida. The push to rename the museum came after recently unearthed documents revealed he was a leader of the KKK in Escambia County in the 1920s. He also served as county commissioner and tax collector. A third approval from the state’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund is the final step to implementing the change.
