The U.S. Navy and Escambia County have finalized the land swap they have been negotiating for the past several years. Naval Air Station Whiting Field will now have a new, 600-acre outlying landing field in Jay that will be used for helicopter training. In exchange, Escambia County gets the 636-acre property on nine mile road in Beulah. Navy Federal Credit Union has already expressed interest in buying part of the old airfield to expand its operations.
