The Escambia County Sheriff’s Department says a 34-year-old Elberta, Alabama man has been arrested for extorting $1,200 from a Pensacola businessman. Jason Stewart threatened to lie to the man’s family and police and say the man raped a former employee. The businessman met with the former employee on June 4th outside a restaurant. The man told investigators the woman had a drug problem and he had tried to help her in the past by giving her money. The woman arrived with Stewart and told the businessman she needed $1,200, but he refused. Stewart told the man if he didn’t pay he would tell his family and law enforcement that he raped the woman. The businessman gave Stewart and the woman $1,200 because he feared for his safety. He reported the incident himself and Stewart was arrested and booked into the Escambia County Jail on no bond.
