Florida will receive an additional 73 million dollars in funding from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill settlement to be used for restoration projects. Those projects may include Coastal vulnerability assessments, up to 20,000 acres in land acquisitions in conjunction with Florida Forever, and storm water treatment and septic updates. The explosion of the oil platform in 2010 caused the largest environmental disaster in U.S. history, spewing 3 million barrels of crude oil over three months. Over the last four years, Florida has received over 51 million dollars for restoration purposes, and the additional funding brings the total to 121 million dollars.
