The cities of Gulf Breeze and Pensacola say a ferry service may be established in a few weeks to help workers get across Pensacola Bay while the 3-Mile Bridge is out after being damaged during Hurricane Sally. Repairs to the bridge will take an estimated six months and a subsidized commuter ferry service, paid for by FDOT, might be a cheaper and faster way to connect the two communities in the absence of the bridge. The cities and county are hoping FDOT will pay for the ferry service, which would include putting out a Request For Proposals to select an operator.
