PENSACOLA GUN BUY-BACK PROGRAM

The City of Pensacola’s gun buyback program will offer no-questions-asked cash gift cards for three types of firearms that officials say are often associated with crimes in the community. City Councilman Delarian Wiggins told the Pensacola News Journal the program would offer $150 for semi-automatic pistols, $125 for revolvers and $200 for semi-automatic rifles. Wiggins proposed the idea of a gun buyback program in January, and it will be limited to a single event on March 20th that will begin at 9 a.m. at Bill Gregory Park. Police will not ask the names of anyone selling guns and if the serial number on a gun shows it was stolen, police will return the gun to its rightful owner. The City Council is expected to approve the program, which is being funded with $10,000 from Mayor Grover Robinson’s discretionary funds in the city’s budget.
