The Florida Department of Health says the State added 2,258 new COVID-19 cases yesterday – the lowest single-day count reported since June. That brings the total number of cases reported 602,829. SCHOOLS OPEN IN ESCAMBIA AND SANTA ROSA COUNTY

School opened for public school students in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties yesterday. About half of Escambia County students chose to return to in-person school this year, while 82% of Santa Rosa students chose the in-person option. FLORIDA SCHOOL REOPEN ORDER UNCONSTITUTIONAL

A circuit judge in Tallahassee has ruled that an order from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis requiring Florida’s schools “brick and mortar” schools to reopen, is unconstitutional. The Florida Department of Corrections says an inmate at the Century Correctional Institute was killed by another inmate last week. 79-year-old Nelson Sanderson was serving two life sentences for sex offenses involving a juvenile. FORMER ESCAMBIA ECOUNTY ADMINISTRATOR DIES

Former Escambia County Administrator Larry Newsom has died. Newsom, who was most recently city manager for Flagler Beach, passed away Sunday in a hospital in Palm Coast, Florida. The cause of death was not reported. Newsome was a longtime assistant county administrator and three times served as interim county administrator — 2010, 2012 and 2013.…MORE
