STATE-WIDE ELECTION TURNOUT

The Florida Division of Elections says more than 28% of Florida voters cast ballots in yesterday’s primary election, the biggest voter turnout in 18 years. About 1.1 million people voted at the polls on Tuesday and 2.3 million voted by mail. In vote-by-mail and early voting, Democrats held a 300,000-vote advantage over Republicans.MORE

LYNN HAVEN MAYOR INDICTED

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the Mayor and City Attorney of Lynn Haven in Bay County have been indicted on numerous counts of fraud involving the theft of 5 million dollars in Hurricane Michael debris removal funds. RARE SHELL FOUND

A 10-year-old girl found a rare shell at St. Andrews State Park last week. Susie McElheny found the junonia shell about a foot beneath the sand. It is highly unusual for this kind of shell to be found on a beach and it may have come in with the last beach renourishment project. Junonia shells…MORE

COVID-19 UPDATE

The Florida Department of Health says Florida recorded 3,838 new COVID-19 cases yesterday to increase the state’s total to 579,932. The state also added 219 new deaths to bring the total to 9,893. SANTA ROSA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY DIES

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said one of their deputies has died, although the cause of death has not been released. Charles Pugh II, had been employed by the SRSO for five years and worked as a deputy in the agency’s Detention Division. He was also an active member of the Sheriff’s Honor Guard.…MORE

PANAMA CITY FIRE CHIEF RESIGNS

The chief of the Panama City Fire Department has resigned. Chief Alex Baird announced in a short email to City Manager Mark McQueen that he was resigning immediately.
